About Edison A. Bardowell Edison A. Bardowell is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Legacy Corporation, a major provider of educational, performing arts and developmental programs to the government and schools of New York City, New Jersey and Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to Legacy, Mr. Bardowell has always taken on roles with the responsibility of brining underserved and poverty stricken youth of the urban communities’ character building programs. Mr. Bardowell held many important roles at the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) serving over 6 years and moving up from designing youth programs as camp commissioner to an executive. His dedication to the youth allowed him to become the youngest executive in the history of the BSA as chairman of marketing and promotions. A position he considers very rewarding due to the ability to promote scouting to thousands of youth and families of New York City. In 2002, Quest Youth Organization of Brooklyn NY, elected Mr. Bardowell to serve as Vice President to lead the organization's restructuring. He was charged to steer Quest out of a severe widening budget gap during the post 9/11 nonprofit funding crisis which was threatening its ability to operate. After considerable success in this role Edison went to establish, strategic plans, policy, regulations and operational structure to continue the sustainability of that organization. Quest is still operational today serving hundreds of kids in Brooklyn NY. In 2003, after becoming Chairman and CEO of the Legacy Corporation, Edison has developed the company to achieve solid growth. He has put the company on a path to success by creating a strong team of the most experienced professionals with a personal desire to help youth succeed. In the process, the Legacy Organization has expanded to schools in New Jersey and most recently Boston Massachusetts. Legacy has grown from just one program at a high school in Manhattan to now serving over 8,500 students daily from 6 to 21 years old of all backgrounds, and economic status. Under his leadership as Chairman and CEO, Edison has established an aggressive plan for Legacy to end the cycle of failing schools, and schools lacking arts, quality educational programs and before and after school programs. Furthermore, his call to action will focus on Legacy partnering with more schools that are under-performing and students who are failing and reinvest with our unmatched services, programs and a network of business leaders who will meet the duty to improve the acedemic standards of our schools. Mr. Bardowell has shown a desire to stop at nothing to advocate for sensible public/education policy for families that are left behind and students struggling to meet the standards. Aside from his many responsibilities at the Legacy Corporation, Mr. Bardowell has dedicated much of his time to philanthropy and public policy. He has other commitments which include Chairman of the Board of Gorilla Repertory Theater Inc., and Chairman of the Board of Pet Project Alliance Inc. He is a brother of the National Order of the Arrow and a member of the NYC Chamber of Commerce, Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and The Hudson Union Society. Edison was also a board member of Notes In Motion Inc., and an advisor for the New York City Department of Education CBO initiative and attendance committee.
